Las Vegas Nevada The Rocky Horror 25th Anniversary Convention
There were many events during the weekend of the 25th Anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The one I enjoyed most was the Rocky Horror Karaoke Show filming. Fans were kept in the dark as to who would be performing the songs…sort of. The original list of who would be performing was quite different than who actually did perform. I can’t say I was disappointed, especially with last minute addition Anthony Head. The performers were as follows.
Jesse L. Martin
Jesse opened up the show with “Science Fiction Double Feature”. Jesse played the role of Tom Collins in the original Broadway production of Rent. Jesse can also be seen in Law and Order, X Files, and Ally McBeal.
Bijou Phillips
Bijou did a fun performance of “Time Warp”. Bijou is the daughter of John Phillips of Mamas and Papas fame. She can be seen in Sugar Town, Black and White, Almost Famous, Tart, Fast Sofa, Bully, and Octane.
Eric McCormack
Eric did an amazing job as Frank N. Furter singing both “Sweet Transvestite” and “I’m Going Home”. Eric has been in tons of shows but is best known for his role of Will in the sitcom Will and Grace.
Wallace Langham
Wallace sang “Hot Patootie”. He has been in several movies and television shows but is probably best remembered for his role in the sitcom Veronica’s Closet.
Rashida Jones
Rashida sang “I Can Make You A Man”. She is the daughter of Quincy Jones. She can be seen in Boston Public.
Anthony Head
Tony sang “Wise Up Janet Weiss”. For those of you who don’t know he plays Giles in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Many Rocky fans are aware of the fact that he played Frank N. Furter in the popular 1990 production of the Rocky Horror Show in London. At the filming fans went nuts when Tony was announced. Its my understanding that he was very moved by the audience reaction, he had no idea that American fans would be excited by some one from the London stage show. Hearing the audience yelling “WE WANT HEAD” was pretty funny too.
Amber Benson
Amber sang “Toucha Toucha Touch Me”. She has been in many notable films but is probably best know for her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Elisa Donovan
Elisa sang “Floorshow”. She has been in Beverly Hills 90210, Clueless, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
Ashton Kutcher
Ashton was the host of the program. He plays Kelso in That 70s Show.
Richard O’Brien, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell
closed the show with a reprise of “Time Warp”.
Also it should be noted that the guitarist for the backing band was Robbie Rist. You probably won’t remember Robbie from his illustrious career as Cousin Oliver from The Brady Bunch.
After the filming of The Rocky Horror Karaoke Show there was another special show for convention attendees. During this show we were treated to performances by Richard O’brien and Dori Hartley. The crowd was given the chance to ask questions of the special guests which included Richard, Pat, and Nell. Tony Head was again present to help judge the costume contest along with the other guests.
